Annual Report for 2021 

This report outlines what the organization accomplished and the activities it participated in from January 1 to December 31, with documentation and clarification of the in-kind and financial support the organization received during the year 2021. 

Key Achievements of 2021 

National Day of Information Technology 

This day was designated as an annual national occasion to celebrate information technology across all of Libya. The National Day aims to support digital transformation and promote and spread technological awareness. The event targeted specialists, engineers, experts, hobbyists in the field of technology, companies, institutions, and organizations. Through it, we sought to create opportunities for cooperation and networking, and to present ourselves in a respectable manner before neighboring countries and the world. 

Accreditation Decision 

The National Day of Information Technology (June 1) was approved by the Government of National Unity under Resolution 79 of 2021. The Libyan Organization for Information and Communication Technology celebrated on April 11 the adoption by the Government of National Unity of June 1 as the National Day of Information and Communication Technology. This decision came following correspondence issued by the Libyan Organization for Information Technology and Communications to the Minister of State for Communication and Political Affairs on April 18, 2021, and based on the letter of the Minister of State for Communication dated April 22, 2021. The Presidency of the Council of Ministers of the Government of National Unity decided that June 1 would be the National Day of Information Technology. 

Main Celebration 

The main celebration of the National Day of Information Technology was held at the Corinthia Hotel, broadcast live via Salam Network and across all platforms and social media. Many activities were organized on this day, such as panel discussions and workshops, exhibitions to showcase projects, and partnerships with local technology and information companies. A cooperation agreement was signed between the Telecommunications Holding Company and the Audit Bureau regarding final accounts and closing budgets. 

Cities Participating in the Event 

Eighteen cities participated in the National Day of Information Technology, with celebrations distributed across more than 60 sites, including: 

  • Tripoli: The main celebration at Corinthia Hotel, broadcast live via Salam Network and all platforms. (Student Union of the Faculty of Information Technology Tripoli – Faculty of Electronic Technology Bin Ashour – Faculty of Computer Technology Ghout Shaal – Nuqta Space – Daraz Corner – Libya International IT Forum at the Teachers Syndicate – Libyan Audit Bureau – Tourism Authority Theater – Stream Incubator – Iqra Company via Zoom – General Information Authority – Documentation and Information at the Ministry of Labor – Abi Al-Ashhar School). 
  • Zintan: Ihsan Organization at the Elite Center. 
  • Misrata: Lamma Company – Student Union of Information Technology – Tubacts Club. 
  • Zliten: Zliten Tech Organization at the National Theater. 
  • Bani Walid: BIT Organization. 
  • Sebha: Tamzawa Organization for Training, Development, and Media – Student Union of the Faculty of Information Technology – Ellis Center – Al-Qalaa Team for Science and Technology. 
  • Khoms: Tijwal Company at the Municipality – Al-Merqeb University. 
  • Gharyan: Gharyan University – Wamda Space. 
  • Benghazi: Main celebration at the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture Benghazi, Qar Younis Conference Hall – Hulool Company at Tibesti Hotel – Libyan University for Modern Sciences and Technology. 
  • Zawiya: Zawiya Tech Organization. 
  • Sirte: Sirtex Robotics at the Municipality Hall – Sirte University. 
  • Bayda: Technology and Media Team. 
  • Ajdabiya: Digital Link Company at the Faculty of Science Auditorium. 
  • Kufra: Hulool Center for Technology and Information. 
  • Jamil: African Telecommunications and Technology Company. 
  • Sabratha: Khayal Media Services Company – Sabratha Faculty of Engineering. 
  • Ghat: Rising Generation Center for IT and Electronic Systems – Rapssa for Media and Culture. 
  • Shahat: Higher Institute of Science and Technology. 

The Libyan Organization for Technology provided moral, in-kind, and financial support to participants in Zawiya, Misrata, and Bani Walid, as well as to student unions at Tripoli University, Bin Ashour Faculty of Electronic Technology, and Ghout Shaal Faculty of Computer Technology. 

Attendance 

The event was attended by a diverse audience of all ages, with a large presence of youth from various disciplines. The atmosphere was very positive. The event invited: 

  • Technology companies and public and private institutions engaged in technical work. 
  • Website and software developers. 
  • Telecommunications and information security engineers. 
  • Tech bloggers. 
  • Owners of pioneering tech projects. 
  • Influential figures in technical decision-making. 
  • University students and professionals in the field. 
  • Banks and major global companies. 
  • Potential investors and funders interested in tech initiatives. 
  • Robotics teams and enthusiasts. 
  • Video game professionals. 
  • Civil society tech organizations and local tech initiatives.

  • Memberships: Internet Society membership (July 1, valid until June 30, 2022). 
  • Content Contributions: Translations of ITU and OPENSIGNAL reports, design of commemorative stamp, websites (technology.ly, ntd.ly, policies.ly). 
  • Community Responsibility: Reporting security vulnerabilities, open data proposals, support for bloggers, equipment donations, etc. 
  • Policies and Legislation: Cloud computing policy consultations, email policy for Libyan institutions (approved November 18, 2021). 
  • Activities: Training courses, conferences, exhibitions (TAQNYA 9), Google Developers Festival, legal awareness campaigns. 
  • Meetings: With H2O, ISPs, Internet Society, Audit Bureau, etc. 
  • Reports: Evaluation of Al-Madar Al-Jadeed company. 
  • Strategic Support: Microsoft 365 licenses donated to multiple organizations. 
  • Agreements Signed: With organizations such as H2O, BIT, Libya Debates, Astronomy Vision, Do FM Radio, Libyan Accountants, Al-Ankaboot Company, etc. 
  • Unconditional In-kind Support: Branding, hosting, domains, Office 365, Slack accounts, legal support. 
  • Unconditional Financial Support: 25,000 LYD each from Libyana, Al-Madar, LTT, International Telecom, and the Holding Company.
