Libyan Technology Foundation Joins the International Telecommunication Union

    |

After more than five years of continuous work and sustained institutional efforts across multiple fronts, the Libyan Technology Foundation has achieved a significant milestone in its journey by obtaining membership in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

The ITU officially approved the Foundation’s membership within the Telecommunication Development Sector (ITU-D) on April 13, 2026, from Geneva. This step represents formal recognition of the Foundation’s inclusion in one of the Union’s sectoral membership tracks.

This acceptance reflects the Foundation’s growing presence within the international ICT framework, particularly as the ITU is the United Nations specialized agency for digital technologies and telecommunications. The Union includes 194 Member States and over 1,000 entities comprising companies, universities, research institutions, and international and regional organizations.

Furthermore, the ITU provides a trusted global multi-stakeholder platform that brings together partners from the public and private sectors, academia, as well as international and regional organizations. This platform facilitates dialogue on key issues related to the ICT sector, enhancing opportunities for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and engagement in specialized international tracks.

This institutional advancement marks an important milestone in the journey of the Libyan Technology Foundation, reinforcing its growing presence in international forums related to digital transformation and telecommunications. It further supports its role in building professional relationships, leveraging international platforms, and contributing to shared technical and developmental priorities.

The Libyan Technology Foundation extends its sincere appreciation to all supporters, stakeholders, and the public. Special thanks go to the General Authority for Communications and Informatics (formerly the Ministry of Communications and Informatics – Libya), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation – State of Libya, the Civil Society Commission, members of the Foundation, and everyone who contributed to achieving this important milestone.
