International engagement, recognition for digital content, and new pathways for training and participation in technology marked a month of diverse activities for Libyan Technology Foundation throughout September.
Key highlights of the month included:
- The acceptance of LTF’s first official contribution to the ITU-D Study Groups, presenting the NextGen – Building a Safe and Responsible Digital Generation program as a Libyan case study within Study Group 2, specifically under Questions Q3/2 and Q5/2 related to cybersecurity, digital skills, and technologies.
- Participation in the 5th Arab Conference on Savings and Financial Literacy in Tripoli, where LTF was also recognized for Best Digital Content in Financial Literacy, acknowledging its contribution to simplifying financial concepts and presenting them to the public in a clearer and more accessible way.
- The conclusion of the Internship Program following two consecutive months of training, activities, events, and sessions with experts and specialists, leading into the final stage, where trainees prepare their final projects and present the outcomes of their training experience.
- Celebrating LTF’s sixth anniversary, reflecting on milestones, projects, and developments throughout its journey, while recognizing a number of employees and individuals for their contributions to the Foundation.
- Strengthening institutional coordination between LTF’s main office in Tripoli and its Benghazi office, through discussions on workflows, communication mechanisms, and the coordination and follow-up of joint projects and areas of work.
- Launching the RISE initiative to strengthen the participation of women and girls in technology through four pillars: Reach, Inspire, Skill, and Empower, bringing together outreach, inspiration, skills development, and opportunities for connection and growth.
- Signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Information Technology Crimes Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department – Libyan Ministry of Interior, to strengthen areas of cooperation between the two parties.
- Participating in the review of the National Emergency Telecommunications Plan (NETP) during a workshop organized by the General Authority for Communications and Informatics in partnership with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Discussions addressed emergency response mechanisms, early warning systems, and the role of relevant stakeholders in strengthening the preparedness of the telecommunications sector.
- Participating in the first meeting of the committee tasked with preparing the draft Electronic Notification Law at the Libyan Association of Members of Judicial Bodies. The meeting addressed the development of a legal framework for electronic judicial notification, including its legal, technical, and technological aspects and the use of modern technologies to improve judicial procedures and services.
- Technical cooperation in Africa – AFRINIC: Continuing the process of completing LTF’s Associate Membership procedures with AFRINIC, supporting greater engagement and cooperation with the African technical community.
- Libyan Internet Observatory (LIO): Continuing the development of the Libyan Internet Observatory, built on the RIPE Atlas infrastructure. The establishment and initial deployment phases have been completed, while work continues on geographic expansion and further development of the data platform.
- From engaging with international platforms and bringing forward experiences from the Libyan community to developing youth capabilities and creating new opportunities for participation in the technology sector, LTF continued throughout September to advance work across knowledge, capacity building, institutional development, and technical engagement.
