LOITC becomes a member of the Internet Society 

We are pleased, honored to inform the Libyan technical community, especially the Internet Society’s approval of the organization’s official presence among its members. The Internet community is those who have the right to vote, influence, and decide in the global Internet community.

The Internet Society is a global non-profit organization founded in 1992. It includes major organizations, non-governmental institutions, and international companies influential in the technology, Internet, and news sectors, universities, colleges, and academies, to name a few (Ericsson, Amazon, Google, Juniper, AT&T)., Facebook, Mozilla, Nokia, AFRINIC) and other major global institutions. 

The Internet Society works to govern the Internet, free it from any restrictions, share technologies and strategies, and bring the voice of communities to global decisions regarding the Internet. This influence reaches the United Nations, ICANN, social media companies, governments, and agencies. 

We have been working since May 25, 2021, during the preparations for the National Information Technology Day, and we received approval and congratulations for the celebration on the third of June. This is a very good indicator of the success of the National Day and its global resonance. Following this, we held several remote meetings via the Microsoft Teams application, By the grace of God, the Libyan Organization for Information and Communications Technology has been approved as a member of the Internet Society, starting from 7/1/2021, so that we can be one of the drivers of Internet communities globally, and we can obtain plans to introduce new technologies, bring strategies, and participate in global reports. 

Our presence as a Libyan community entity in the Internet community will allow us to participate in defining the community’s priorities, strategies and plans, vote in community councils, bring studies, strategies and experiences to the Libyan community, form professional relationships with international institutions in the same field, and many other possibilities and benefits. 

This announcement will be followed by other posts and articles in which we detail the tasks and benefits of our presence in the Internet community on both the local and global technical levels.

Workshop to discuss cloud computing policy 

LOICT organized a workshop held this morning at the Corinthia Hotel in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, to discuss proposals and amendments to the cloud computing policy issued by the Communications and Informatics Authority. The workshop addressed all paragraphs and sections of the cloud computing policy in detail, and was attended by: 

  • Almadar Aljadeed
  • Libyan Spider
  • Awal Information Technology
  • Libyana Mobile Telephone
  • International Communications
  • Al-Itqan Legal Consulting Office

In this session, a brainstorming took place about everything related to the field of cloud computing. The attendees also talked about their experiences and expertise from the reality of the labor market. Other laws and legislation related to the matter were also considered. 

Our organization has become a member of the Internet Society Foundation 

We are pleased, honored to inform the Libyan community in general and the technical community in particular of the approval of the #Internet_Society on the presence of the organization among its members officially, and among those who have the right to vote, influence and decide in the Internet community globally. 

The #Internet_Society is a global non-profit organization, founded in 1992. It includes major organizations, non-governmental institutions, international companies influential in the technology and Internet sector, experts, universities, colleges and academies, to name a few: Ericsson, Amazon, Google, Juniper, AT&T, Facebook, Mozilla, Nokia, AFRINIC and other major international institutions. 

The Internet Society works to govern the Internet, free it from any restrictions, share technologies and strategies, and bring the voice of communities to global decisions regarding the Internet, whose influence reaches the United Nations, ICANN, companies that own social media platforms, governments, and bodies. 

Our presence as a Libyan community entity in the Internet community will allow us to: participate in determining community priorities, strategies and plans, vote in community councils, bring studies, strategies and experiences to Libyan society, form professional relationships with international institutions in the same field, and many other capabilities and benefits. 

We also cooperated during the first year of our membership in the Internet community on amendments and additions to the first drafts of the general policy for e-mail for Libyan institutions, which was issued pursuant to Government Resolution No. 563 of 2021. Shortcomings and loopholes in technology and communications legislation were discussed, and some communications and correspondence with icann in the Arab region to clarify the status of the national domain. ccTLD or what is known as ly. 

We are all proud of this membership and this presence on global arenas in accordance with Libyan legislation and law, and we are awaiting the next announcement of the organization’s membership in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), so that the organization can be a bridge of knowledge and experience between the Libyan civil technical community and various societies, and the transfer of technical transformation strategies.

Signing a Memorandum of Understanding with BIT Organization 

Within the framework of the cooperation and support provided by the Libyan Organization for Information and Communications Technology, we signed, thank God, a joint cooperation agreement with the BIT Organization, represented by Eng. Mounir Salem, Chairman of the Board of Directors. 

This agreement aims to provide the necessary technical support from the Libyan Organization for Information and Communications Technology to the partner organization, and to provide an integrated technical package to the members of the organization, including e-mail, a domain, hosting space, a work environment, and space on the cloud, and to provide training for members of the organization on the mechanism of dealing with the technical system for working on cloud systems. And the Microsoft 365 system, for the purpose of developing the organization’s correspondence and internal system. 

We are very happy with this cooperation, and we look forward to working with our friends in the Bit organization, to improve and develop the technical development of society and its institutions. 

Signing a cooperation agreement with H2O Team 

Within the framework of the cooperation and support provided by the Libyan Organization for Information and Communications Technology, we – thank God – signed a joint cooperation agreement with H2O Team on 04/19/2021; In its content, this agreement aims to provide the necessary technical support to the partner organization, and to provide an integrated technical package to the members of the organization, including email, a domain, hosting space, a work environment, and space on the cloud, and training in the use of these products and services, and to work closely with the organization in the field of training members and qualifying them for work. On cloud systems and Microsoft 365. 

We are happy with this cooperation, and excited to work closely with the H2O Team, to achieve the highest level of cooperation and community development. 

Signing an agreement with Libya Debate 

Within the framework of the cooperation and support provided by the Libyan Organization for Information Technology and Telecommunications, we signed a joint cooperation agreement with the Libya Debates Organization on 25/04/2021. The content of the agreement aims to provide the necessary technical support to the partner organization, and to provide an integrated technical package to the organization’s members, including email, a domain, hosting space, a work environment, and space on the cloud, and training on the use of these products and services, and to work closely with the organization in the field of training members and qualifying them to work on Cloud systems and Microsoft 365. 

We are very happy with this cooperation, and are excited to work closely with Libya Debates, to achieve the highest level of cooperation and community development. 

Open Signal Global Mobile Experience Award 2021 Report 

The organization translated the report of OpenSignal – an independent analytics company specializing in determining mobile network experience – about the 2021 Global Mobile Network Experience Award for the Best Global Emerging Mobile Networks, and the organization translated the partial report related to the local companies represented by Libyana and Al-Madar Al-Jadeed. 

This step aims to contribute to local and international technical content, especially content in the Arabic language. 

Initial meeting with H2O Team 

This evening, an initial meeting was held via Zoom application to assist in the transformational cooperation between us and the H2O Team organization, regarding the H2O Digital Organization, the technical and technical support team. 

This meeting will be followed by memorandums of understanding between people and work on the ground, and we will also work to transfer the experience to other future areas.

The Organization translates OpenSignal’s reports

The Libyan Information and Communications Technology Organization contacted OpenSignal – an independent analytics company specializing in determining mobile network experience – to translate their report, which analyzed the networks of Libyan telecommunications companies Libyana and Al-Madar Al-Jadid in seven indicators. The aim of this partnership was to translate the report prepared by OpenSignal published in March. Last October, and cooperation in the future on processing the metadata of OpenSignal’s outputs and drafting and preparing them in quarterly reports in Arabic and English issued by the organization, to be published by OpenSignal as well. 

This report brought very impressive results for Al-Madar Al-Jadeed Company, as it outperformed Libya in the third quarter of 2020 in all indicators, namely: uploading, downloading, audio, games, video, coverage, and quality availability; While Libyana surpassed Al-Madar Company in the 4G coverage speed rating in the capital, Tripoli. 

The study was conducted on 35,554 devices, and the number of measurements was approximately 112 million, and the study was in the period between June 1 and August 29 of 2020.
